Huskies Claim Pac-12 Championship
In an exciting back-and-forth battle, the #3 Washington Huskies emerged victorious over the #5 Oregon Ducks by a score of 34-31 to win the 2023 Pac-12 Championship game on Friday night. The Huskies were a 9.5-point underdog in the game and easily covered the spread.

Washington jumped out to an early 20-3 lead in the first half, led by two rushing touchdowns from running back Dylan Johnson. Oregon stormed back in the second half, scoring 24 unanswered points to take a 27-20 lead early in the fourth quarter. The Huskies, however, came though with some clutch plays down the stretch to come out on top.
The win completed a perfect 13-0 season for the Huskies and punched their ticket to the CFP. The team is led by Heisman odds contender Michael Penix Jr., while his top wide receiver targets Rome Odunze and Ja’Lynn Polk are NFL-caliber level.

Longhorns Earn Big 12 Title
The Texas Longhorns put on an offensive clinic to beat the Oklahoma State Cowboys 49-21 and win their first Big 12 championship since 2009 on Saturday.
Led by quarterback Quinn Ewers, the Longhorns scored touchdowns on their first four drives to jump out to a commanding 28-7 lead in the second quarter. Ewers was nearly perfect, completing his first 12 passes and finishing with a career-high 452 passing yards and 4 touchdowns.
Quinn Ewers is the first player with 4 Pass TDs in a half in the Big 12 championship game.

Defensively, Texas held Oklahoma State’s star running back Ollie Gordon to just 60 rushing yards after he entered the game leading the nation. The Longhorns came up with a key interception in the second half to halt the Cowboys’ momentum.
With the win, Texas made a strong case to earn a spot in the College Football Playoff. The 12-1 Longhorns were watching closely as the final CFP rankings were announced on Sunday. Their big win paid off, as UT earned a CFP spot ahead of undefeated FSU.
Texas vs Washington Projected Point Spread Movement
Considering the Huskies were significant underdogs against Oregon in the Pac-12 Championship despite beating them in the regular season, it’s clear oddsmakers aren’t too bullish on UW. While the Huskies are proving naysayers wrong, don’t expect Vegas to swing this spread significantly in their direction.
These two teams played just once in the past decade, with Washington winning 27-20 over Texas in the 2022 Alamo Bowl. Both team’s current quarterbacks played in the game, with Texas’ Ewers having a strong showing (369 pass yds).
We expect the public money to be on Texas in this game, as they had the more impressive conference title victory. They’ve been more dominant down the stretch, while UW has been in several one-score games. Look for some line movement towards Steve Sarkisian’s team leading up to January 1st.
