Travelers Championship Picks
Patrick Cantlay first-round top-5 finish (+700)Xander Schauffele to win (+750)
Cantlay is hot after the US Open. He finished third, 2 strokes behind winner Bryson DeChambeau. But his 2024 season as a whole has been a roller coaster.
There is one notable trend, though. When he cards low rounds, it’s usually on a Thursday. In 13 tournaments played so far this PGA season, he’s shot 65 or lower 5 separate times. He’s carded rounds of 67 or lower in 7 of his 13 opening rounds this year.
Basically, if he’s going to be in contention this weekend, he’s going to get off to a hot start on Thursday. Thus, I’ll take him to build on his momentum from a third-place finish last week to card a top-5 finish in Round 1 on Thursday. You can get that for +700 odds at bet365.
As for who will win the tournament, give me Xander Schauffele. He got his first major victory this year at the PGA Championship, getting that monkey off of his back. He’s playing some of the best golf of his life. And, to make things even sweeter, he won this tournament in 2022. He plays TPC at River Highlands well, and I expect that to continue this weekend.
At +750 odds, betting on him is a little more palatable from a value standpoint than putting money on Scottie Scheffler (+375). There should be a lot of scoring this week, and Schauffele should be right in the middle of the action.

Travelers Championship Longshot Picks
Keegan Bradley to win (+5000)Rickie Fowler top-10 finish (+900)
It makes sense to sprinkle some money on Bradley to win. Not only did he win last year’s Travelers Championship, he set a course record with a 4-round total of 257 strokes. He hasn’t been playing super well so far this year, but he clearly likes TPC at River Highlands, so maybe it’ll spark him to victory once again. At +5000 odds, a small wager on Bradley could pay big dividends.
Fowler, on the other hand, has been terrible lately. He’s missed the cut at his last 2 tournaments and has had a bad year overall. But the talent is there. If he can get hot, he can be in contention throughout the weekend. Call it a hunch, but I think this could be the week Fowler gets it together. He won’t win, but a top-10 finish is within the realm of possibilities.

Will Rory McIlroy play this weekend?
After falling to Bryson DeChambeau by 1 stroke at the US Open last weekend, McIlroy has decided to take some time off to work on his game before a pair of important tournaments in Europe.
McIlroy, a native of Northern Ireland, said he’ll be taking some time away before the Genesis Scottish Open (which he won last year) on July 14 and the start of The Open Championship at Royal Troon in Scotland.

McIlroy hasn’t won a major since the PGA Championship in August of 2014. Since then, he’s had 11 top-5 finishes in majors, including last week’s second-place finish at the US Open.
Will he claim another trophy or two in Scotland next month? We’ll see how this break impacts his game, for better or for worse.
